ModCon Register

Hi, I’m Jon Kassam and I have taken over as Modcon Registrar. I’ve been tinkering with cars including Citroens (2CVs, GS, AX, BX)  through my life. I initially became interested in kit cars when a work colleague turned up in one. Going to a few kit car shows I ended up choosing a Lomax223. Building it took 5 years including house moves from UK (donor purchase and strip) -US (mechanical overhaul to rolling chassis) -France(body on) -UK (final fit, MOT and legalization),  but exposed me to world wide appeal/spares-support for 2CVs.

Building the Lomax was fun and challenging, but other Lomax and 2CV kit car owners helped with advice, building and encouragement. My Lomax and I have traveled around the UK and Europe creating smiles per mile. In the UK I was followed by a 2CV owner who stopped me and offered the 2CV as it was going to fail its next MOT so I brought it home to be stripped on the driveway for spares. In France there have been times returning to the Lomax to find 2CV part(s) on the seat or in the case of a gearbox next to it. Since building apart from regular maintenance there have been a few modifications i.e. anti-roll bar, electronic ignition, carburetor jets, etc.

see my role primarily to ensure that there is a point of contact for owners of modified 2CVs and sister models, and to make everyone aware that modified vehicles are just as much a part of the club as any standard 2CVs and variants.

I next managed to acquire 2 1/2 2cvs from a guy I met at a festival, with the plan of building a twin engine sahara copy (though that is still sat part built in my yard I’m sad to say). Not long after I bought a very tired Falcon with a rotten chassis (among other things). This one did make it on to the road and, whilst still being very tatty is basically my daily driver in the summer. I have just acquired an ami super Falcon, so that is the next project.

When the club set up the various registers, a Lomax register was formed, but this soon changed to encompass all kit, self-built or radically altered vehicles. I see my role primarily to ensure that there is a point of contact for owners of all the unusual cars, and to make everyone aware that modified vehicles are just as much a part of the club as any standard 2CVs or Dyanes.
