Apart from the chairing of meetings, the chairman (with assistance from the secretary) is responsible for making sure that meetings take place, have a venue, an agenda and are publicised. Making sure the club’s rules are adhered to is also a priority. The chairman manages the committee as a working team with the aim of keeping the club running smoothly. 

The post of chairman is a legal requirement, together with the treasurer and secretary, due mainly to the fact that the club manages funds. For most member enquiries there is often someone more directly involved, although, the chairman is always happy to talk to members and hear their ideas for the club.
